About Us

Club History

Founded in 1916, Hamilton Old Boys is one of the oldest and most successful Clubs in the Waikato region. The Club has won more Premier Rugby championships and supplied more representative players than any other Waikato Club.​​​​​​​

1989 saw the building of what has now become one of NZ’s largest indoor rugby training facilities. It has been of great assistance to the Club, the Chiefs and Waikato rep teams who have used the facilities over the years. The Shed was recently installed with an artificial turf carpet which has enhanced this facility into a multi-use arena and will enable teams to train indoors when the weather and ground conditions are unsuitable. Netball, volleyball, soccer and a multitude of other sports are able to be played on the 32 x 20 metre surface.

​​​​​​​Hamilton Old Boys has a long pr​​​​​​​oud history in Waikato Rugby, and have teams from Junior boys through to Seniors and Golden Oldies. We are also proud be represented by HOB Womens Rugby team, who won the WRU Womens Championship in 2017.

Our club has won more Waikato Breweries Shield Premier Championships than any other club along with many more Colts, Senior Bs, and Senior Reserves championships. We have also produced more Waikato provincial representative players than any other club.

We have a great array of facilities including our stronghold of Fred Jones Park, the only club sand-based field in the region, our indoor training facility and gym, and prime position next to the Waikato Stadium.

Our mission is to promote all players to achieve their playing goals, enjoy playing rugby and push for selection for higher honours. We facilitate this approach with excellent coaches and a proactive committee.

Allied HOB Netball

Hamilton Old Boys Rugby & Sports Club is proud to share an alliance with Allied Netball Club since 2016.

Allied Netball is one Hamilton's oldest and well established clubs. They have a strong membership and they also wear the best colours in town - Red & Black - you could say it is a match made in sporting heaven.

We look forward to celebrating a successful season this year in all grades.
